Spain welcomed the adoption of resolution 2797 which emphasizes that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most feasible solution.

In a statement adopted following the 13th High-Level Meeting, held on Thursday in Madrid, Spain praised the United Nations Security Council resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, which emphasizes that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most feasible solution to resolve the Moroccan Sahara issue.

While reaffirming the constant and constructive position expressed in the Joint Declaration of April 7, 2022, between the Prime Minister of Spain and His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, Spain expressed its satisfaction regarding the latest UN development on the Moroccan Sahara issue, which "fully supports the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Special Envoy to facilitate and conduct negotiations on the basis of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco."

This position, taken during the 13th High-Level Meeting between the two Kingdoms, confirms Spain's active support for the current UN roadmap, which places Morocco's autonomy initiative at the heart of the settlement process.
