Chiyoda Awarded a FEED Contract for CO₂ Liquefaction Facilities on the Matsuura CCS Project

Chiyoda Corporation (Chiyoda) is pleased to announce that it was awarded a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract on August 12, 2026, for CO₂ liquefaction in a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project being jointly studied by Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-POWER) and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kyushu Electric Power). The project is in a coal-fired power plant in Matsuura City, Nagasaki Prefecture and aims for commercial operation in the early 2030s. Chiyoda's scope covers the FEED of the CO₂ liquefaction facilities within the planned CO₂ capture, liquefaction, temporary storage and loading facilities.

The FEED contract is associated with engineering activities undertaken by J-POWER and Kyushu Electric Power, following selection of the Matsuura Cluster under the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) Advanced CCS Projects with Maritime Transport initiative.

Building upon the findings of a feasibility study (FS) previously conducted by Chiyoda^*1, the layout of the CO₂ liquefaction facilities will be examined and detailed engineering specification studies will be conducted for possible future commercialization. Through this contract, Chiyoda is actively supporting the realization of an efficient and economically viable CCS project.
