Washington, D.C. - TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of tech CEOs and senior executives, today released the following statement from President and CEO Linda Moore on the introduction of the Supporting Knowledge through Industry-Led Learning (SKILL) Act , new legislation led by U.S. Representative Sam Liccardo (D-CA) which would promote workforce training and reskilling to prepare Americans for the future of work in our evolving technology-driven economy. The SKILL Act creates a tax credit for employers that invest in registered apprenticeships as well as workforce development programs at community and technical colleges or public colleges and universities. Businesses could claim a $2,500 credit for each graduating student and an additional $2,500 for each graduate they hire.
"Forward-thinking job training is essential to maintaining U.S. leadership in innovation and getting America's workforce ready for the jobs of tomorrow, created by emerging technologies. The SKILL Act is a workforce development plan made for this moment - it encourages employers to invest in training initiatives that address their hiring needs while equipping people with the skills to land good-paying jobs. We applaud Representative Liccardo for putting forward this proposal to ensure U.S. technological advancement is powered by American workers."
