The State of Palestine welcomes the overwhelming vote by the majority of UN member states to adopt the New York Declaration and its annexes, as the outcome of the UN Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution. The conference was co-chaired by our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia together with France. A total of 142 states voted in favor, 12 abstained, and 10 voted against.
The Ministry noted that this resolution is the first adopted by the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
The State of Palestine expresses its gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to France for their leadership of the international conference and for their vital efforts to transform the New York Declaration into a concrete plan of action with clear steps across the political, economic, legal, and security tracks.
The State of Palestine also appreciates and thanks all countries that sponsored, supported, and voted in favor of the resolution, making the New York Declaration an official UN document. It further calls on states to implement the outcomes of the international conference to realize the two-state solution, and to exert pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to end its genocide, cease fire, stop the use of starvation as a weapon of war, prevent forced displacement, and ensure the release of prisoners and hostages.
In addition, the State of Palestine calls for the activation of all available mechanisms to end the Israeli colonial occupation, achieve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and implement the two-state solution as the only viable path forward in the face of genocide, crimes and settlements.
