GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The City of Grand Rapids invites residents to attend the next Commission Night Out event on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at GRPS University, 1400 Fuller Ave. NE, where the evening will focus on public safety and community engagement.
The event will feature a dynamic and inclusive conversation about what public safety means to residents and how the City can better serve its neighborhoods. Community members will have the opportunity to share their perspectives, learn about public safety efforts, and hear directly from City leaders and public safety departments.
"Everyone has different ideas of what public safety means and what it means to feel safe in your community," said Andrea Riley-Mukavetz, community engagement manager. "It could be having streetlights that work on your block or knowing there's always a quick response from the Police and Fire Departments. We want to know what public safety means to you. This is your chance to help shape the future of safety in Grand Rapids."
The evening will include participation from:
Police Chief Eric Winstrom, Fire Chief Brad Brown and Managing Director of Oversight and Public Accountability Brandon Davis will also be present to listen, answer questions and collaborate with residents.
"This is a night of conversation and collaboration," said Riley-Mukavetz. "We're looking forward to pulling up a chair with you."
The event is free. Doors open to the public at 4:30 p.m. with dinner, provided by Social Catering, served from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. The public safety engagement program begins at 5:30 p.m. The evening's City Commission meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meeting will air on Comcast Channel 26 and be live streamed on the City of Grand Rapids Facebook page and YouTube channel.
