La Ha touts bill to protect against political violence

October 29, 2025

Following through on a legislative idea she filed as House Bill 1468 this Spring to help protect those who serve in public roles from political violence, State Representative Nicole La Ha announced she voted Yes on House Bill 576 during the fourth day of the Illinois House's Veto Session in Springfield.

HB 576 will allow for elected officials and candidates to shield their personal information as well as other protective measures for personal information and protection. HB 576 includes legislative concepts sponsored by La Ha in HB 1468, but is limited to elected officials and candidates.

"While the bill I sponsored this Summer would have extended this same protection to first responders, I will accept this as a step in the right direction," said La Ha, whose young family was threatened this summer in an incident of political violence.

The renewed spotlight on protecting the personal information of elected officials and candidates follows a summer of political violence across America. HB 476 outlines clear procedures for privacy requests, establishes strong consequences for violations and helps to ensure officials can focus on their public duty without living in fear.

"This is a basic line of protection," Rep. La Ha said. "No one should have to trade their personal safety to serve their community."

Rep. Nicole La Ha proudly serves the people of the 82nd District.
