Zimmerli Mobile Brings Art and Bilingual Programs to New Brunswick Community

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (August 21, 2026) - Rutgers University's Zimmerli Art Museum is bringing its collection directly to the local community through "Zimmerli Mobile," a bilingual outreach program aimed at underserved populations.

Launched in 2023 by Director Maura Reilly, the mobile initiative hosts art workshops, storytelling, and cultural events across New Brunswick and surrounding municipalities. During fiscal year 2026, the program engaged nearly 2,000 residents across 32 events, visiting schools, public libraries, and community festivals.

Staffed in part by social work graduate students, the program offers dual English-Spanish activities designed to foster accessibility and connection.

"We bring the museum out into the community rather than expecting people to just come here," said educator Jessie Garcia.

The museum hopes to expand the program across Middlesex County into shelters, care facilities, and veterans centers.
