Shreve Leads Indiana Delegation Resolution Supporting Freedom 250 Grand Prix

WASHINGTON - Congressman Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) today introduced a resolution expressing support for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, the first INDYCAR race ever held in the nation's capital. Scheduled for Aug. 21-23, 2026, the event will bring one of Indiana's signature traditions to Washington as part of America's 250th anniversary.

Each Memorial Day weekend, hundreds of thousands of fans from around the world attend the Indianapolis 500, the world's largest single-day sporting event. This August, that Hoosier tradition comes to Washington, where INDYCAR drivers will race past some of the nation's most recognizable landmarks on a street course surrounding the National Mall.

The resolution is cosponsored by every Indiana Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, underscoring the delegation's unified support for showcasing Indiana's motorsports heritage during America's 250th anniversary. Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09), chairman of the Congressional Motorsports Caucus and the National Republican Congressional Committee, also joined as a cosponsor.

"Racing is Indiana's gift to American sport," said Rep. Jefferson Shreve (IN-06). "For the first time, INDYCAR will race through the streets of our nation's capital during America's 250th anniversary. Few sports better showcase American innovation, precision and determination. It's fitting that an Indiana tradition will help celebrate this milestone in our nation's history."
