WASHINGTON-House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after hosting a House GOP Conference Special Media Row at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Innovative Housing Showcase. House Republicans highlighted the policies they have delivered to make housing more affordable and available for all Americans:
"Republicans, alongside President Trump and Secretary Turner, are advancing real solutions-like the Working Families Tax Cuts-to cut red tape, lower costs, and unleash the kind of private-sector innovation that brings prices down," Chairwoman McClain said. "We're focused on making life more affordable and expanding opportunity for hardworking Americans."
"The Innovative Housing Showcase celebrates what makes America great: innovation, imagination, and ingenuity, all harnessed to blaze new trails to the American Dream of homeownership," said HUD Secretary Scott Turner. "I'm happy that so many of our partners in Congress were able to attend, and I thank them for supporting affordable housing opportunities for vulnerable Americans, including Opportunity Zones, addressing regulatory barriers, championing public-private partnerships, and more. Under President Trump's leadership, we have also provided Americans with a historic working family tax cut, giving them more money in their wallets and more pathways to affordable housing solutions. And this is only the beginning of President Trump's Golden Age of American homeownership."
Republicans permanently expanded the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and New Markets Tax Credit to encourage development and investment in affordable housing and low-income communities. They also made the Opportunity Zone program permanent, promoting investment-especially in rural areas.
Other tax-related actions include raising the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, which allows homeowners to deduct more of their property taxes from federal taxes and creating Trump Savings Accounts that help first-time buyers save up to $10,000 toward purchasing a home.
