Remembering Howard Zelikow, z”l

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Howard Zelikow, z"l, beloved husband of Marcie Zelikow, whose vision, generosity, wisdom, and friendship has left an indelible mark on Hebrew Union College and the broader Jewish community.

Howard believed deeply in the importance of preparing leaders who would strengthen Jewish life for generations to come. Together with Marcie, they made a transformational commitment to that future through their support of the Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management. Because of their generosity, countless students have been able to pursue their calling to serve the Jewish people and lead our community's most important institutions.

Howard's legacy cannot be measured by philanthropy alone. He was a thoughtful advisor, a devoted mentor, and a steadfast partner to the College. He took genuine interest in the people behind the work, encouraging leaders, asking probing questions, and inspiring those around him with his optimism and commitment to Jewish communal life. Those fortunate enough to know him personally experienced not only his remarkable intellect and leadership, but also his warmth, kindness, and joie de vivre.

His impact on Hebrew Union College is woven into the lives and careers of generations of Jewish communal leaders. He understood that investing in people is the most powerful way to shape the future. Howard believed in our mission, challenged us to think bigger, and supported us with extraordinary generosity and friendship. We mourn his loss and remain deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Marcie and their family; including children Lori Florio (Tom Florio), Daniel Zelikow (Marcelo Sanguinetti), and David Rosenblum (Raina Rosenblum); adored grandchildren Lucie Florio Katz, Anabelle Florio Asaro, Jack Florio, Mateo Zelikow-Sanguinetti, Maya Zelikow-Sanguinetti, Caleb Rosenblum, and Micah Rosenblum; and all who were blessed to know and love him. May they find comfort in the extraordinary legacy Howard leaves behind and in the countless lives he touched.

May his memory be a blessing.
