Portland State University named Dale Gaubatz as the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment and Student Engagement, a newly created role within the Office of Academic Affairs that brings together both enrollment management and student affairs within OAA. In this position, Gaubatz will provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for Portland State University's efforts to attract, retain, and graduate a diverse and thriving student body.
Gaubatz joins PSU from the University at Albany, SUNY, where he has been leading enrollment efforts. He has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, with a focus on helping universities connect recruitment, financial aid and student support in ways that improve student success.
He has held leadership roles at the University at Albany, SUNY and the Colorado School of Mines, where he has built collaborative teams and practical, student-focused strategies.
"What distinguishes Dale is how he works. During his interviews, he conveyed a dedication to building a resilient enrollment culture that empowers teams, connects financial aid strategy to student success, and prioritizes the full student journey from first contact through graduation and beyond," said Shelly Chabon, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Gaubatz holds a B.A. in Sociology from Texas Tech University, and a M.A. in Administration and Organizational Development from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.
Gaubatz enjoys spending time outdoors - especially snow skiing and beach combing - watching movies, and sharing his well-developed collection of dad jokes. He is also the proud father of Trae and Liz.
Gaubatz will begin his new role at Portland State University on July 1, 2026.
