Speaker Menin Announces New Appointments to Senior Staff

NEW YORK, NY - New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin today announced several senior staff appointments to strengthen the Council's work on economic development, strategic partnerships, and compliance.

"These appointments help bolster our efforts to take the Council in a new, more proactive direction to deliver results for every resident of the five boroughs," said Speaker Julie Menin. "Their experience and leadership will help us build stronger partnerships, expand economic opportunity, and ensure the Council is equipped to meet the greatest challenges facing our city."

Joe Daniels, Senior Advisor and Co-Director for Economic Development
Joe Daniels, the former President and CEO of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, joins the Speaker's office as Senior Advisor for Economic Development. In this role, Daniels will help guide the Council's work to support economic growth and strengthen partnerships across New York City's public, nonprofit, and private sectors.

Lea Goldman, Co-Director, Office for Advancing Partnerships and Economic Expansion (APEX)
Lea Goldman, a veteran journalist and editor who has led several major publications, is co-directing the Speaker's newly-established Office for Advancing Partnerships and Economic Expansion, or APEX, alongside Daniels. The office will focus on building strategic partnerships and advancing initiatives that expand economic opportunity across the five boroughs.

Greg Krakower, Counsel to the Speaker
Greg Krakower, who prior to working as a private attorney and public policy consultant served as Senior Advisor and Counselor to the Office of the New York State Attorney General, joins the Speaker's office as Counsel to the Speaker. In this role, he is helping to bolster the Council's investigative operations and providing legal counsel on legislative, policy, and operational matters.

Nwamaka Ejebe, General Counsel

Nwamaka Ejebe has been elevated to General Counsel. Ejebe brings with her a distinguished legal career that includes roles at the New York City Law Department and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. She will also become the first Black person to serve in this role. She will oversee legal strategy and operations for the Council and continue advising on key legislative and governance matters.
