After successfully overseeing the administration transition for Mayor Yemi Mobolade and launching numerous impactful programs, Colorado Springs Chief of Staff Jamie Fabos has announced her departure from the City effective Feb. 16.
"Jamie brought a no-nonsense, 'get it done' energy to our work," said Mayor Yemi Mobolade. "She is an exceptional operator who earned the trust of her team by consistently supporting and empowering the people around her. My administration benefited greatly from her ability to manage multiple priorities, reorganize operations for maximum effectiveness, and keep critical projects moving with speed and precision. Across more than a decade of service-and two administrations-Jamie helped launch many of the initiatives now shaping our city's future, leaving a lasting mark on the City of Colorado Springs. We will miss her deeply and are profoundly grateful for her leadership and dedication."
Among Fabos' accomplishments with the City are the design and planning of the Keep it Clean and Safe Program, addressing impacts of homelessness on key corridors; focusing the City's efforts to address police staffing shortages, including helping the Colorado Springs Police Department cross more than 800 officers for the first time in City history; and providing critical leadership in balancing the City's budget by overcoming multi-year budget deficits through innovative budget efficiencies.
In addition, Fabos was instrumental in passing legislation to allow the Colorado Springs Fire Department to join the state's Firefighter Heart and Cancer Trust, providing vital medical support to the city's first responders. She oversaw the re-organization of city departments to achieve maximum efficiency and collaboration, resulting in improved service to residents.
"It's been an honor to serve the city I've called home for over 20 years," Fabos said. "A sports professional at heart, I never planned to work in government, but the last 10 years have been eye-opening as far as the quality of the employees, the amount of work they complete with extremely limited resources, and their dedication to public service. It has been a great honor to lead this fantastic team of people, and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved."
Prior to being appointed as Chief of Staff in 2023, Fabos was the City's Chief Communications Officer for eight years under Mayor John Suthers. Between administrations, she served as General Manager of Public Affairs for Colorado Springs Utilities.
In her role as Chief Communications Officer, Fabos led the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and handled crisis communications for nationally-covered events including the Planned Parenthood shooting. She successfully launched the rebranding of the City as Olympic City USA and earned notable media coverage for the City's multi-year run as the most desirable city in America, as ranked by U.S. News and World Report.
Deputy Chief of Staff Travis Easton will assume the role of Acting Chief of Staff prior to a national search to fill the position, with priority to regional candidates.
