Bucco Statement on Sherrill Update of Democrat Voter Registration Disaster

Anthony M. Bucco Posted on August 19, 2026

Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-Morris, Passaic) released the following statement regarding Governor Sherrill's update of the Democrat voter registration disaster where at least 6,600 non-citizens were registered to vote, leading to approximately 400 non-citizens voting.

"I'm glad to see that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor have agreed to work with the federal government and provide all of the necessary information needed to investigate this unbelievable situation," said Sen. Bucco. "However, today's announcement by the Governor doesn't answer the many serious questions that remain. Like why is the investigation limited, and how can anyone say with confidence that only 6,600 non-citizens were improperly registered? New Jerseyans deserve to know exactly what happened, how it happened, and whether there are other problems we have yet to uncover. Restoring confidence in our elections will require complete transparency from the state, cooperation from all necessary parties, and a commitment to leaving no stone unturned. Establishing a bipartisan Select Committee with subpoena power, as I have suggested, that can work directly with the federal and state governments would get the answers New Jerseyans deserve and make sure we take every necessary step to fix the problems and prevent something like this from ever happening again."
