Cory Minor Named Assistant Chief, Nine Other Officers Promoted
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)-Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Tuesday announced a series of promotions within the Binghamton Police Department, effective this month.
Mayor Kraham said: "We've made real progress in recent years rebuilding the Binghamton Police Department, addressing manpower shortages and making the necessary investments to position the department as a statewide leader in public safety. These promotions advance that progress and put the Binghamton Police Department on solid ground as we continue our efforts to improve the department and keep residents safe. Congratulations to all the officers who were promoted, and thank you for your hard work and service."
Chief John C. Ryan said: "These promotions will improve the quality of police professionalism and operational supervision of police personnel in the City of Binghamton. The elevation of these members will undoubtedly help shape the face of leadership within the Binghamton Police Department for years to come. In advancing these men to their new ranks, I share in their immense pride of accomplishment, and I am very optimistic for the future of the department, and our mission in policing our city and the people whom we serve."
Cory J. Minor, who had served as Captain of the Detective Division since 2020, has been appointed Assistant Chief. He is a 26-year veteran of the Binghamton Police Department.
He replaces Chief Ryan, who had served as Assistant Chief prior to his appointment as Chief earlier this year.
Two new Police Captains were named as part of the promotions: Matthew Hodnik and Bryan Sostowski, who both joined the department in 2013.
Douglas Chavez, John Hlavacek and Garrett Morabito were promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant.
Four new Police Sergeants were also named: Nathan Burgo, Brian McGuire, Paul Ryan and Nicholas Smith.
The promotions took effect on January 17.
