AFPM supports bill to strengthen U.S. recycling framework

WASHINGTON, D.C. - American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) Vice President Midstream and Petrochemicals Rob Benedict today issued the following statement urging support for the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA):

"There shouldn't be 50 different definitions of what is or isn't recyclable in this country. That type of patchwork confuses consumers and freezes investment in recycling and waste collection technologies, holds back innovative waste-reduction partnerships, and invites frivolous lawsuits.

"If you believe there's more we can do through recycling to tackle the problem of plastic waste, then this legislation is a must pass bill. We applaud Representatives Langworthy and Veasey and their coalition of bipartisan cosponsors for introducing and championing the Recycled Materials Attribution Act."

As part of the Recycling Leadership Council (RLC), AFPM joined 16 organizations including the American Chemistry Council, the Plastics Industry Association and the Vinyl Institute in signing a letter of support praising the bill and urging its passage in Congress.

"The bipartisan RMAA represents a practical and much-needed opportunity to strengthen America's recycling framework. By creating clear, uniform national standards for recycled content claims, the legislation would provide the regulatory certainty manufacturers need to invest confidently in advanced recycling technologies. Increased investment would help scale recycling capacity, improve recycling rates and reduce plastic waste - supporting meaningful progress toward a more circular economy. AFPM encourages Congress to enact this important legislation."
