Panasonic’s KAIROS powers world’s first* “IOWN and Perfume” 3D live performance with 4K high-resolution video transmission real time

Osaka, Japan, October 3, 2025 - Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd. announced today that its IT/IP platform KAIROS was used in the groundbreaking 3D live performance "IOWN × Perfume"-a collaboration between NTT's IOWN technology and the successful Japanese girl group Perfume-held in April. Hosted by NTT, Inc., the event showcased the future of communication by achieving the world's first* real-time 4K 3D video transmission using the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN), NTT's next-generation communications infrastructure. KAIROS was deployed by Hibino Corporation as a core system component to seamlessly deliver the immersive performance. Visitors to the NTT Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo can now experience replays of the cutting-edge performance firsthand.

Following the successful completion of validation tests carried out both internally and externally prior to the event, the project was formally announced as a technical proof-of-concept for future video production.

Emu Hino, a technical director at Hibino Corporation, said: "The production required precise synchronization across numerous components, but KAIROS allowed us to manage everything with a single unit. This greatly reduced our setup and system-management burdens to allow us to concentrate fully on creative endeavors."

Panasonic is committed to advancing remote production in the broadcast and video-production industries with its IT/IP platform KAIROS. By transforming the entire workflow-from shooting and creation to projection-the company strives to boost operational efficiency without compromising image quality, thereby addressing the evolving needs of diverse audiences.

How KAIROS Achieved the World's First* Real-Time 4K 3D Spatial Transmission Using IOWN

The production involved operating 3D cameras and executing multiple systems simultaneously. Traditional video systems would have required a complex configuration and numerous devices, making both operation and management highly challenging. With KAIROS, however, the operators greatly benefitted from a flexible system design and real-time processing capabilities. The result was a showcase of new frontiers for visual expression, creating a highly immersive live experience not possible with conventional setups.

  • Flexible 3D Video Format Support
By accepting multiple 3D camera feeds via dual 12G-SDI inputs, KAIROS enables seamless switching and conversion into various 3D formats, such as side-by-side and top-and-bottom.

  • Low-Latency SDI-IP Conversion
Through SDI input/output boards, KAIROS enables seamless switching between 3D cameras and correction systems that use only SDI interfaces. The system converts signals to IP with low latency and no compression, enabling transmission over the IOWN network.

  • Compact and Efficient System Design
Switching, color adjustment, format conversion, delay compensation, and IP conversion are all handled within a single unit, streamlining operations and minimizing the hardware footprint.

  • Broad Third-Party Compatibility
With its open architecture, KAIROS integrates easily with external control applications and existing video/audio systems.

* According to NTT's official announcement in April 2025, this was the world's first live performance to transmit an entire spatial experience-including 3D video data, floor vibrations, and lighting effects.
