On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated the participants of the U.S. Independence Day celebration organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania.
The President emphasized that ever since the early years of reestablished independent Lithuanian state, American companies put a bet on Lithuania's future by investing here, while also contributing to the security of the entire region.
"Today, I am honored to be here, alongside the friends from America and of America. And it is my greatest pleasure to celebrate the birth of the United States of America-the driving force of our modern, democratic world," the Head of State spoke.
The President recalled that in 1776, the U.S. Declaration of Independence was so powerful as to attract to its cause many volunteers from around the world, including a Polish Lithuanian officer Tadeusz Kościuszko. Ever since, every freedom loving nation of the world has followed the example set by the Founding Fathers of America.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, the people of Lithuania know the true value of freedom, because they have experienced its absence in the most painful ways. For them, the United States of America will forever be the finest example of liberty transforming the world for the good.
The President emphasized that Lithuania is especially grateful for America's commitment to the security of the region, Europe, and the whole Euro Atlantic area.
"Today, as the proud member of NATO, Lithuania leads by example by spending 5.4 percent of GDP on defense. This investment allows us to modernize both our armed forces and the military infrastructure used to host allied troops, including the American ones," the Head of State underlined.
The President also highlighted bilateral economic relations and close cooperation in defense industry, advanced electronics, high-precision lasers, life sciences, and financial services.
"Lithuanians and Americans contribute to each other success, making our alliance ever stronger. The enduring strength of the transatlantic bond lets our businesses operate freely and our citizens feel safe," the President said in his address.
In his congratulations on the upcoming U.S. Independence Day, Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that the fundamental idea put forward 250 years ago- that liberty is not a gift from governments but a right of people-is the one Lithuania chooses and defends to this day.
