WASHINGTON, D.C.- On January 15, 2026, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02)announced that he had secured federal grants totaling $3.7 million from the Department of Justice for the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Department of Transportation to improve road safety in Albuquerque, Ramah, and Truth or Consequences.
"Communities across New Mexico deserve peace of mind. These grants will have a real impact on our citizens' safety," said Vasquez. "I'm working to keep our children safe both on the web and on our roads."
Specifically, the federal investments Rep. Vasquez secured for New Mexico include:

$402,133 grant from the Department of Justice to the New Mexico Department of Justice's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forceto identify, apprehend, and prosecute child sexual predators.

$3.3 million from the Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All Funding Opportunity program for three distinct road safety projects in New Mexico:

Albuquerque Public School's Vision Zero for Youth Initiativereceived $2.7 million to expand its Walking School Bus program to reduce student pedestrian fatalities and boost student attendance and health.

The Ramah Navajo Chapter Safe Routes to School Planreceived $200,000 to keep students safer on their commutes to school by assessing and optimizing walking, bus, and bicyclist routes for four schools across 250 square miles.

The Truth or Consequences Safe Mobility for Allproject received $440,000 to help support the city's 2025 Safety Action Plan. The work to be done includes road safety audits, a Marie Street corridor study, and a citywide road sign inventory study.
