Governor Gianforte Cuts Ribbon on PROOF Research Expansion in Columbia Falls

Governor's Office

COLUMBIA FALLS, Mont. - Governor Greg Gianforte today joined PROOF Research Inc. to cut the ribbon on its manufacturing facility expansion in Columbia Falls.

"Montana is open for business, and we are thrilled that PROOF Research is continuing to grow here in the Treasure State," Gov. Gianforte said. "With lower taxes, fewer regulations, and a strong workforce, we're making Montana the best place to live, work, and grow a business. When companies like PROOF Research choose to expand here, they create more opportunities for our kids and grandkids to stay in Montana and build their future right here at home."

Founded in 2011, PROOF Research manufactures high-tech, lightweight, and ultra-accurate firearms using cutting-edge aerospace and specialized composite materials. The new facility in Columbia Falls is the company's latest expansion, adding an additional 12,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity.

In 2017, PROOF Research was awarded an $11.42 million contract from the U.S. government for the development of future weapon systems. With over 150 employees, the new facility expands manufacturing to meet customer demands worldwide.

Joining the governor for the ribbon-cutting was PROOF Research Director of Special Projects Greg Hamilton.

"Fifteen years ago, PROOF Research was a startup here in the Flathead. A small group of us had a clear idea, we wanted to make barrels that shoot better, last longer, and perform when it matters most. There was no big facility, there were no guarantees, we didn't have a large staff - the only belief was that here in Montana was the right place to build something exceptional," Hamilton said. "This is more than additional space, it's the infrastructure we need to support the programs ahead of us, to serve the customers better, and keep developing the technology that has defined PROOF since day one."

During an event held at the facility, Gov. Gianforte emphasized that the growth of PROOF Research reflects Montana's broader economic momentum, citing the state's recent ranking by the Cato Institute as the second freest state and as home to the highest per capita concentrations of firearm and ammunition manufacturers in the nation.

Supporting firearm and ammunition manufacturers is a top priority for the governor. Since taking office, Gov. Gianforte has strengthened Montana law to prohibit state and local enforcement from enforcing federal executive orders or gun control measures that infringe on constitutional rights and expanded protections for gun and ammunition manufacturers and retailers against frivolous lawsuits.
