Washington, D.C. - Congressman Eric Burlison's office will host a U.S. Service Academy Day for Missouri's Seventh Congressional District on Saturday, March 28, in Joplin. The event is designed to provide students and their families with information about attending a U.S. service academy and navigating the congressional nomination process.
Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the U.S. Naval Academy will be in attendance, along with staff from Congressman Burlison's office, to answer questions and outline admissions and nomination requirements.
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kraft Insurance, located at 2701 Bird Avenue in Joplin.
Attendance at a U.S. service academy carries a commitment to serve in the United States military for a minimum of five years following graduation. As a Member of Congress, Congressman Burlison is authorized to nominate up to 15 candidates for each vacancy at the service academies allocated to his district.
"One of the greatest privileges of serving in Congress is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young men and women to our nation's military service academies," said Congressman Burlison. "If you are a high school student in Missouri's Seventh District or know someone who is interested in serving our country through one of the academies, I strongly encourage you to attend."
Additional information about the service academy nomination process is available online.
