FRED Adds Inflation Indicators from the St. Louis Fed

FRED has added 2 data series for the consumer price index excluding energy commodities (CPI ex energy commodities) and the personal consumption expenditures chain-type price index excluding energy goods (PCE ex energy goods) reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

The data series are calculated by the St. Louis Fed, using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, respectively. Each series is constructed by removing the energy commodities category and its relative weight from the respective headline price index. The resulting series retain the smoothness of core price index measures and achieve this by removing a significantly smaller share of price index components than core.
