UPDATE: Overnight Full Closures Continues on State Route 4 Scheduled Between Balfour Road and Walnut Boulevard In Contra Costa County

Nightly Full closures continue tonight between the hours of 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM

Contra Costa County -For the safety of the motoring public and our crews Caltrans Construction has scheduled full closures for ongoing striping operations on State Route 4 (SR-4), spanning from Hillcrest Avenue to Byron Highway to apply permanent striping. Full closures of SR-4 in both east and westbound directions will continue tonight, September 29, 2026, between Balfour Boulevard, and Walnut Boulevard from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Westbound SR-4 will reopen at 5:00 a.m.

Please note: All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Drivers should note that Lane and ramp closure will continue to take place on SR-4 every Monday through Friday night between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. To search for current District 4 lane closure information, please click here. This project is tentatively scheduled to be complete by Summer 2027.

DETOUR INFORMATION

EASTBOUND:

To Livermore:

• Exit EB Hwy 4 on Balfour Rd
• Right on Walnut Blvd
• Left turn on Vasco Rd.

To Byron and Discovery Bay:

• Exit EB Hwy 4 on Balfour Rd
• Turn Left on Balfour Rd
• Turn right on Walnut Blvd
• Turn right on Marsh Creek Road.

WESTBOUND:

From Vasco Rd:

• Make a right on Walnut Blvd
• Turn left on Balfour Rd
• Take the WB Hwy 4 onramp

From Byron and Discovery Bay:

• Turn right on Walnut Blvd
• Turn left on Balfour Rd
• Take the WB Hwy 4 onramp.

All work is weather dependent and is subject to change.
