MONTGOMERY, AL - The City of Montgomery today released its first quarter report detailing major accomplishments in Street Maintenance, Roadside Trash Collection, and Landfill operations from January through March 2026. The report highlights the City's continued commitment to enhancing infrastructure, improving neighborhood cleanliness, and maintaining efficient waste management services.
During the first quarter, Street Maintenance crews paved 2.08 miles of roadway and repaired 1,933 feet of sidewalks across the city. Crews also addressed 3,960 potholes, improving drivability and safety for residents. In addition, the department completed extensive drainage and right-of-way maintenance, including cleaning 4.11 miles of ditches, cutting 82.28 miles of rights-of-way, and clearing 1,670 inlet boxes to enhance stormwater flow and reduce flooding risks.
Roadside beautification efforts also saw significant progress during the first quarter. Through litter collection activities, the City removed 17.31 tons, more than 34,000 pounds, of trash and debris from streets and public areas, supporting the City's ongoing initiative to create cleaner, safer neighborhoods.
At the City landfill, Montgomery processed 31,312.97 tons of municipal solid waste and 20,532.55 tons of construction and demolition materials, for a combined total of 51,845.52 tons of waste received during the first quarter. This represents more than 103 million pounds of material handled through City sanitation operations, underscoring the essential role of municipal waste management in maintaining public health and environmental standards.
"These numbers reflect the hard work and dedication of our City teams who work around the clock to keep Montgomery clean, safe, and moving forward," said Mayor Timothy C. Ervin. "Whether it's filling potholes, clearing ditches, removing roadside litter, or processing waste at our landfill, their efforts directly improve quality of life in every part of our city."
The City will continue its quarterly reporting efforts to maintain transparency and ensure residents remain informed about progress in core public service areas.
