The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Davis Global Center, 4111 Emile St., in Omaha. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed at https://www.nebraska.edu.
A detailed agenda for the Board meeting is available here.
Among the agenda items is consideration of the second design phase for Project Health, a transformational academic health care facility. The project, part of the larger Project NExT initiative, will serve as a state-of-the-art clinical learning center to educate and train future health care providers, conduct cutting-edge research and expand access to clinical trials.
Approval of the second intermediate design report would authorize construction of the shell and core of the facility. Initial design phase approval, granted in April 2025, allowed for site preparation and foundational work to begin. A planned third phase will be required to complete the project.
"As we look ahead, Project Health will not only transform our medical campus-it will help shape the future of health care for Nebraska," said NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. "The visible progress already underway is a powerful reminder of the momentum we've built-and will continue to build-as we work to deliver on our bold vision for the state."
The Board will also consider the appointments of Jon Watts as the University of Nebraska's first chief operating officer and Bren Chambers as vice president and general counsel. Both leaders bring deep experience within the NU System and will play key roles in advancing the university's strategic priorities.
The University of Nebraska is the state's only public university system, made up of four campuses - UNL, UNO, UNK and UNMC - each with a distinct role and mission. Together the campuses enroll nearly 50,000 students and employ 16,000 faculty and staff who serve the state, nation and world through education, research and outreach.
