Friends and fellow Nebraskans,
In the coming days, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in a humble manger, surrounded by family, heralded by angels, and visited by kings. The nativity of Jesus marks the arrival of our Savior and the beginning of His journey on earth. Now, 2,000 years later, Christ's life, death, and sacrifice offer each of us eternal salvation. Through the centuries, the heart of Jesus has strengthened us through times of trial and persecution, as well as times of prosperity.
This holiday season, I'm especially praying for peace in the world. Right now, American troops are serving in different capacities across the globe, helping to protect and defend American interests and keeping the world safe. I particularly hope and pray for an end to global conflicts, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, an end to violence in Sudan, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Here in America, as we gather around the Christmas tree, attend worship service or Mass, and spend time with our loved ones, we have much to be grateful for, knowing that we get to celebrate this holiday amidst great peace and prosperity at home.
As we celebrate this Christmas season and look to the new year, let us continue to strengthen the flame of faith in Jesus Christ and a deeper love and compassion for our neighbors. Whether you are spending time with family and friends or serving overseas this Christmas season, we all can draw closer to God and to one another.
Mandi, my sons, and our entire family wish each of you a very safe, warm, and merry Christmas. May God richly bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.
