City of Montgomery Invites Residents to Help Shape the Future of North Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. - The City of Montgomery is calling on residents, business owners, community leaders and stakeholders to help shape the future of North Montgomery through a series of community planning workshops led by the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) Communities by Design program.

From November 18-20, a volunteer Design Assistance Team (DAT) made up of architects, planners, landscape architects and economic development professionals will work alongside residents to develop a shared vision for the Lower Wetumpka Road corridor and identify practical strategies to turn that vision into reality.

"The future of North Montgomery should be driven by the people who live, work and invest there," said Esesua Ikpefan, Chief Resilience Officer, BHCHF. "This process is designed to listen first and create recommendations based on the community's priorities, ideas and aspirations."

A preliminary visit by the team took place in September. The upcoming three-day engagement will include community workshops, public discussions and a final presentation outlining recommendations and next steps.

What Is a Design Assistance Team?

The AIA Design Assistance Team program brings together multidisciplinary experts who donate their time and expertise to help communities address local challenges and opportunities. Rather than presenting pre-determined solutions, the team listens to residents and develops recommendations grounded in community input.

Residents Encouraged to Register Early

While all community members are welcome to attend, organizers are encouraging participants to register in advance to help ensure adequate seating, materials and refreshments.

Residents can register online.

"Every voice matters," Ikpefan said. "Whether you've lived in North Montgomery your entire life or recently moved into the area, your ideas can help shape the corridor's future. The more people who participate, the stronger the final vision will be."
