City of Reno Seeks Public Input on Property Maintenance Code Updates

The City of Reno invites property owners, business owners, and community stakeholders to participate in upcoming public workshops on proposed updates to Reno Municipal Code 14.05, the Property Maintenance Code. The City is also seeking feedback on the proposed changes as part of the update process.

These proposed updates would align Reno's standards with the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code (IMPC) and introduce updated requirements for redevelopment areas. These updates aim to modernize safety expectations, clarify enforcement tools, and support ongoing revitalization efforts.

Key proposed updates include:

  • Adoption of the 2024 IPMC, replacing the 2012 edition.
  • Updated local amendments that clarify expectations for weeds, storage, safety requirements, and enforcement processes.
  • Possible replacement of the former Downtown Property Maintenance Standards (which applied only to RDA 1) with the newly named Redevelopment Area Property Maintenance Standards, which would apply to both RDA 1 and RDA 2.

Public workshop information:

The City will host two virtual workshops to present the proposed updates and gather public feedback:

Spanish language assistance will be available at both workshops. In addition to attending a workshop, residents may submit written feedback through the online comment form or the City Council Public Feedback Form.

For more information, including current regulations, draft standards, and registration links for the workshops, visit the City's Code Enforcement Updates page.
