Vibrant paintings, a family's creative legacy, and sculptures made from old books fill the historic galleries through December 15.
Step into the Falkirk Cultural Center this season and the first thing you notice is color. Three new exhibitions opened on Friday, November 6, in the historic Mission Avenue mansion and run through December 15, 2026.
Each show takes its own approach, but they share a common thread: art as a way to tell personal stories, whether those stories belong to one artist, to a group of friends, or to a family across generations.
In "The Colors of Her Story," the New Moon Artists Group brings together paintings by nine Bay Area artists. Bold color and expressive figures run through the collection. Each artist brings a distinct style and point of view, and hung side by side, their work offers many ways of telling a woman's story.
"Paintings & Progeny" presents the work of Maura Harvey and her family. The collection ranges from luminous, sunlit painting to imaginative mixed-media work, showing how creativity can take root and branch out across generations. Visitors are invited to look for the influences and echoes that connect one family member's work to another's.
In "Black, White and Read All Over," Adrienne Biggs gives discarded books a second life. She folds and pleats their pages into intricate sculptural forms, and the printed text becomes part of the texture. Pages once meant to be read become something to walk around and study up close.
The community is invited to a free opening celebration on Friday, November 13, from 5:00 pm-7:30 pm. Guests can explore all three exhibits, meet neighbors, and enjoy refreshments in one of San Rafael's most beloved historic settings.
