Cybersecurity Is a Team Sport - Here's How You Can Help

October 27, 2025

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Cybersecurity isn't just for IT - it's for everyone. Whether you're a student, faculty member, or staff, your actions help protect Western's digital environment.

Everyday Actions That Make a Big Difference:

  • Lock your screen: When you step away from your computer, hit Windows+L or Control+Command+Q on a Mac.
  • Update your software: Patches fix security holes-don't ignore update prompts.
  • Think before you click: If something feels off, it probably is. Trust your instincts.

Be a Cyber Ally:

  • Report incidents: If you see something suspicious, say something. Email [email protected].
  • Share knowledge: Talk to your peers about safe practices. Awareness spreads faster than malware.
  • Join the conversation: Attend cybersecurity events, read WWU News updates, and stay informed.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great time to reflect on how we use technology-and how we protect it. Thanks for being part of the solution.
