Town of Nantucket to Hold September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

The Town of Nantucket invites the community to gather for the annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The ceremony will take place at the front entrance of the Fire Department at 4 Fairgrounds Road.

The event will honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of first responders.

Order of Events

  • 9:30 AM - Apparatus staged; Ladder Flag in place
  • 10:00 AM - Call to order, ceremony begins. Opening remarks delivered by Fire Chief Michael Cranson and Police Chief Jody Kasper
    • Ringing of the bells
    • Moment of silence for remembrance and reflection
    • Delivery of the Chaplain's Prayer, the Firefighters' Prayer, and the Police Officers' Prayer
    • Remarks from representatives of Senator Julian Cyr's office
    • Closing remarks by Chief Cranson
    • Ceremony concludes

"The September 11th Remembrance Ceremony is an opportunity for our community to come together in reflection, honor the memory of the victims, and recognize the bravery of first responders who risk their lives in service," said Chief Cranson.

This event is open to the public. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
