Former Postal Employee in Sutter County Indicted for Embezzling Postal Money Orders

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Kyree Hall, 26, of Sacramento, charging him with theft of government property, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced. The indictment was unsealed following his arrest today.

According to court documents, Hall was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in 2025, and worked as the sole clerk in the Rio Oso Post Office in Sutter County. Using his position, between March and May 2025, Hall issued at least 56 USPS money orders payable to himself and falsely recorded that they had been paid for by various people. The theft cost the U.S. Postal Service approximately $55,505.

The U.S. Postal Service-Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Veronica M.A. Alegría is prosecuting the case.

If convicted, Hall faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Any sentence, however, would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables. The charges are only allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
