F or Major League Soccer's Atlanta United, success on the pitch is only part of the story. Behind the scenes, Georgia College alumnae Kacey (McInerney) Covino ('15) and Becca Fallon ('21) help drive the club's growth in different but equally impactful ways. Both Convino and Fallon got their start in sports as interns for Bobcat athletics.

For Covino, her role as director of business operations at Atlanta United is the culmination of years of persistence. A former Bobcat soccer scholar-athlete, she credits her time at GCSU for shaping her resilience.

"Things weren't always easy," Covino said. "I wasn't a starter, and that forced me to figure out what I was good at and push through."

After graduating, she began her career with the Orlando Magic before returning to Atlanta just as MLS was expanding. Nearly a decade later, she describes her role as "the glue" across departments.

"I wouldn't say I'm an expert in any one specific function," she said. "But I see how everything fits together. My job is making sure everyone else does, too."

It's rewarding work.

"I'm one of the very lucky few that wakes up excited to go to work," she said. "Every once in a while, you stop and think, 'Wow, this is really cool.'"

Social Stories

As Atlanta United's social media manager, Fallon epitomizes GCSU's liberal arts mission in action. A former creative writing major, she continues to find new ways that her degree challenged her to think critically and grow.

"Social media is so story-driven," Fallon said. "Being able to focus on writing and creativity at Georgia College helped me stand out in ways I didn't even realize at the time."

After starting as a copywriter, Fallon broke into pro sports with the Atlanta Braves before joining Atlanta United. There, she has led major campaigns, including the rollout of the club's "Spirit of '96" Olympic-themed kit.

"It was about telling the story of the city - its history, its people and why that moment still matters," she said.
