University Organizational Resilience - Northern Command (UOR-NC) is here to help you get started at home, at work and in our learning spaces.
September is National Preparedness Month. This year's theme, Preparedness Starts at Home, is a reminder that readiness begins with small, practical actions you can take today. Whether facing a natural disaster, power outage or unexpected emergency, planning ahead helps you protect yourself and support others when it is safe to do so.

Three quick wins to do this week
Make a plan. Decide how you will communicate with family, roommates or coworkers during an emergency. Choose meeting points and make sure everyone knows the plan.
Build a kit. Stock water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, batteries, first-aid supplies and copies of important documents. Stay informed. Update your emergency contacts in Workday (faculty/staff) or myWNC (students), and download the college's campus safety app, WNCsafe, which gives fast access to safety tools and resources on your phone.
What is WNCsafe and why it helps
WNCsafe puts campus safety resources in one place. It includes emergency contacts, crisis alerts, tip reporting, and location services features. It is free on iOS and Android.

Get started today: a 5-item checklist
1. Save emergency contacts (home and work) in your phone. 2. Add WNCsafe to your home screen and explore the features you might need in a hurry.
3. Pick two meeting points: one near home, one outside your neighborhood.
4. Assemble or refresh your kit. Set a calendar reminder to check it every six months.
5. Plan to join one of the training sessions this fall and invite a colleague or classmate to attend with you.
