WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jack Reed today issued the following statement on the passing of former Congressman Barney Frank (D- MA-04):
"Barney Frank was known for his extraordinary intellect, keen wit, and passionate advocacy for Massachusetts and working people everywhere. From protecting consumers to fighting for fishermen to holding the government accountable, he was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of not only his constituents, but all Americans.
"The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that bears his name continues to make a positive difference for American families and our economy. He was a courageous trailblazer for LGBT rights who fought against homophobia and for justice and equality. I was proud to serve with him and count him as a friend. His wit, wisdom, and passion will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. My sincere condolences to his husband, Jim, his sisters, Ann and Doris, his brother David, and their entire extended family."
