Summer is an ideal time for dental visits; preventive services at Faculty Practice covered at 100%

Summer can be an ideal time to schedule preventive dental exams, as children are out of school and many adults have fewer commitments. Marquette faculty and staff who receive the Gift of Time, as well as those covered under the university's dental insurance plan, may find this season especially convenient for visiting a dentist.

Marquette's dental plan through Delta Dental of Wisconsin provides 100% coverage for diagnostic and preventive services from in-network providers. While care from an in-network dentist outside the university is covered after a deductible, services through the School of Dentistry Faculty Practice offer the highest level of coverage and do not require a deductible. Services are covered at 100%, and the clinic's location on Marquette's campus provides a convenient option for care. To schedule an appointment with the Faculty Practice clinic, call (414) 288-0788.

Oral health is closely connected to overall health, as people with gum disease have a higher likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke. Additionally, bacteria from infected gums and teeth can lead to dangerous respiratory infections like bronchitis, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Regular dental exams and cleanings can help prevent serious oral health issues and support early detection of disease. This can improve overall well-being and may reduce the cost of treating more advanced conditions.

Summer often offers greater flexibility for scheduling preventive dental exams, and it can also be an ideal time to complete more extensive procedures, such as wisdom teeth removal or restorative care, with fewer disruptions to school or work schedules.

More information on the university's dental benefit can be found on the Dental Insurance page and the Total Rewards Guide.
