GEAPS and IGP Institute Offer In-person Conveyor Training Opportunity

Published: Aug 11, 2026

Hands-On Training for the Operation and Maintenance of Conveying Equipment Dec. 1-3, 2026

GEAPS and the IGP Institute of Kansas State University are teaming up once again to offer the upcoming training opportunity: Hands on Training for the Operation & Maintenance of Conveying Equipment. The training will be offered onsite at the IGP Institute in Manhattan, Kansas, December 1-3, 2026.

The unique, two-and-a-half-day training blends instructor demonstrations, hands-on practice, and pre-course online modules to prepare participants to safely operate, maintain, and repair the conveying equipment most critical to grain facilities. Participants receive documents, reference material, and many other resources to support their work long after the training event.

The strength of this program truly lies in the real-life application of working directly with conveying equipment. A participant of last year's program noted, "Having the hands-on experience helps so much more putting things into prospective and understanding how they work rather than just talking about them in front of a screen."

Who Should Attend Conveyor Training:

This training is ideal for engineers, project managers, grain elevator operators, maintenance personnel, millwrights, and safety professionals. This includes anyone who wants to sharpen their technical skills and avoid costly downtime.

Professionals with wide range of experience and training will benefit, including frontline maintenance workers, grain facility managers, and supervisors with equipment repair and maintenance roles. Bringing people with different levels of experience together creates opportunities to learn from one another and make valuable connections. "[I] had a great experience learning and meeting knowledgeable people in the industry. [It] was a good time overall and would definitely attend future courses again," said a former participant.

Key Takeaways:

The course features hands-on work with five types of conveying equipment:

  • Distributors
  • Screw Conveyors & Bin Sweeps
  • Chain (Drag) Conveyors
  • Belt Conveyors
  • Bucket Elevators

After successfully completing the course, learners will be able to install, operate and inspect conveying equipment. They'll also be able to troubleshoot problems and maintain the equipment, understand what could happen to grain quality if equipment is used improperly and apply and perform the best safety practices and procedures.
