Congresswoman Tenney Participates in House Intelligence Committee Hearing Reviewing 9/11 Commission Reforms Ahead of 25th Anniversary

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today participated in a House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence open hearing examining the intelligence reforms and recommendations made following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, as part of the Committee's bipartisan 25th anniversary review of the 9/11 Commission Report.

The Open Hearing to Review the 9/11 Commission Intelligence Recommendations' Impacts and Progress, featured testimony from leading national security and counterterrorism experts on the progress made since the attacks, remaining vulnerabilities, and the importance of intelligence coordination and information sharing across all levels of government. During the hearing, Rep. Tenney highlighted the critical role cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement plays in preventing terrorism and protecting national security. Tenney specifically raised concerns about efforts by Albany Democrats to restrict cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities through proposals targeting 287(g) agreements and New York's Green Light Law, arguing that these policies undermine the information sharing and coordination principles emphasized by the 9/11 Commission. The hearing is part of the Intelligence Committee's broader bipartisan review ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks later this year.

"Twenty-five years after the horrific attacks of September 11th, we have a responsibility to ensure the lessons learned from that tragedy are never forgotten," said Congresswoman Tenney. "The 9/11 Commission made clear that cooperation and information sharing between federal, state, and local law enforcement are essential to protecting the American people from future terrorist threats. As a New Yorker, this issue is deeply personal. We must remain vigilant and focused on protecting our national security by properly implementing the recommendations from the 9/11 Commission Report. Policies that weaken cooperation between law enforcement agencies move us in the wrong direction and ignore the hard lessons learned after the deadliest terrorist attack in our nation's history. We must continue strengthening the tools, partnerships, and intelligence capabilities needed to keep Americans safe."
