UW Music Presents ‘Brazil Unfolded’ Piano Recital Nov. 8

The University of Wyoming Department of Music will present a joint recital, "Brazil Unfolded: A Portrait in Four Hands," featuring Theresa Bogard and Helber Fernandes Ribeiro, Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The recital is free and open to the public.

This unique program offers an immersive journey into the rich soundscapes of Brazilian piano repertoire for four hands, with works spanning different eras and styles that showcase the depth of Brazilian classical and popular music traditions.

Highlights include the rhythmic exuberance of Barrozo Netto's "Dança Grotesca"; the delicate lyricism of Carolina Cardoso de Menezes' "A Gruta dos Pássaros"; and contemporary compositions by living composers Elvira Drummond, Ronaldo Miranda and Amaral Vieira. The program also features inventive arrangements of beloved popular songs, including Antônio Jobim's iconic "Águas de Março" and compositions by Noel Rosa and João de Barro.

Bogard and Ribeiro are dynamic pianists known for their diverse programming and passion for expanding the traditional repertoire. Bogard, a distinguished Steinway Artist and Fulbright scholar, is a UW professor of music and performs globally, specializing in historical performance practice and the music of women composers.

Ribeiro, a Brazilian native with a doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado, is an award-winning concert artist and pedagogue dedicated to promoting Brazilian classical music and diversity in education.
