Metropolitan issues statement on fire at Weymouth Water Treatment Plant

Metropolitan is continuing to work with the La Verne Fire Department, La Verne Police Department, Los Angeles County Fire, and Air Quality Management District in response to the fire incident at the battery energy storage system at our La Verne facility.

Our water treatment operations have not been impacted and the safety of Metropolitan's water supply is not affected. About 350 employees are assigned to this facility, which also houses our Weymouth Water Treatment Plant. However, we have limited staff to those required for critical operations and emergency response.

Once the immediate emergency has been addressed, Metropolitan will support the investigation into the cause of the fire and assess the battery units before determining next steps.
