The City of New Brunswick recently closed on a $9 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to replace approximately 1,000 lead service lines in its drinking water system. The final number of lines replaced will depend on the results of the ongoing inventory and the cost per line. Under New Jersey law, service lines and goosenecks made of lead or galvanized pipe must be replaced, as they are a major source of lead in drinking water. Lead exposure poses a serious public health risk, particularly to pregnant women and young children.
