Trinity Metro, hospital collaboration advances TEXRail extension

A public-private collaboration between Trinity Metro and Baylor Scott & White Health is advancing Trinity Metro's TEXRail extension and creating a new regional transit connection to Fort Worth's Medical District and Near Southside.

The Trinity Metro Board of Directors on Monday authorized agreements with affiliates of Baylor Scott & White Health for property needed to construct and operate the new TEXRail station. Under the agreements, Baylor Scott & White will donate approximately 1.76 acres for the permanent station site, a significant step toward extending TEXRail 2.1 miles from Fort Worth T&P Station into the district.

The Near Southside is one of Fort Worth's largest employment centers, with tens of thousands of people working in the area and a significant concentration of medical jobs. Continued investment in healthcare, education, housing and commercial development is reshaping the district and increasing its importance to Fort Worth and the region.

"The Medical District and Near Southside are building Fort Worth's future right now," said Richard Andreski, president and CEO of Trinity Metro. "TEXRail isn't creating that momentum; it's connecting to it and amplifying its growth. Our collaboration with Baylor Scott & White strengthens the connection between this important employment center and the people, businesses and communities that contribute to its success."

In addition to the donated station site, the agreements provide Trinity Metro access to property needed for supporting station infrastructure, including customer parking, a bus turnaround and station access road. The agreements also anticipate future development of the Baylor Scott & White campus while protecting long-term parking and access for Trinity Metro customers.

The board action authorizes Andreski to finalize and execute the donation and ground lease agreements, subject to final legal review.

Trinity Metro plans to break ground on the TEXRail extension Thursday, Oct. 29, at the future Near Southside Station in the Fort Worth Medical District.

Trinity Metro's 2.1-mile TEXRail extension will continue south from Fort Worth T&P Station to the new Near Southside Station in the Fort Worth Medical District. The extension will connect the district with TEXRail service to Downtown Fort Worth, Northside, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and DFW Airport Terminal B.
