Backgrounder

On August 24, Pauline Rochefort, Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State for Rural Development, on behalf of the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development, announced funding to bring high-speed Internet access to communities in Ontario.

Here is an overview of Ontario's connectivity status:

  • As of July 2026, more than 96% of Ontario households have access to high-speed Internet (at least 50 Megabits per second download and 10 Megabits per second upload [50/10 Mbps+])
  • In 2017, 86.9% of Ontario households had access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).

The Government of Canada is funding the following two projects:
