PITTSBURGH, PA - Ahead of President Donald J. Trump's State of the Union Address tonight, Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) president Jim Welty issued the following statement:
"At President Trump's inauguration a year ago, Pennsylvania's natural gas industry welcomed and remains grateful for an administration committed to accelerating the safe, responsible development of our abundant natural gas resources. Our shared commitment to creating jobs, boosting energy and national security, building infrastructure, and supporting trade with our allies continues to deliver results for the American people and every Pennsylvanian.
"We thank President Trump and his cabinet, especially Secretary Burgum, who has already made several visits to Pennsylvania to see our industry's work firsthand, for their bold and results-driven leadership.
"By cutting red tape and working in partnership with the industry and the skilled building trades, this administration's efforts are helping to ensure the American economy maximizes our energy opportunities. Long-stalled projects are being re-evaluated to supply abundant Pennsylvania natural gas to New England states that are unnecessarily paying some of the highest prices in the world because of failed policy decisions.
"Today marks 10 years from when the first LNG cargo ship left American shores. The Trump administration's day-one reversal of the previous administration's LNG export ban gave needed certainty to key trading partners and allies, reinforcing America's global leadership. Today, we're exporting record levels of LNG, while natural gas continues to deliver affordable and reliable power for families and businesses across the Commonwealth.
"Pennsylvania is well positioned to win the economic race for investment in emerging industries like artificial intelligence, where reliable, low-cost power is essential. By supporting infrastructure build out, LNG exports, and efficient natural gas-fired power generation, the promise of American energy leadership is now a reality, and Pennsylvania energy producers, workers, and communities are ready to build on this critical progress."
