WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Cherfilus-McCormick released a statement on ICE enforcement actions in South Florida that have targeted workers during routine traffic stops.
"Hardworking people who contribute to our economy, maintain our neighborhoods, and support their families should not be treated like threats.
These actions are spreading fear through our communities, disrupting local businesses, and harming South Florida's economy, which relies on immigrant labor in industries like landscaping, construction, agriculture, and hospitality. When workers are afraid to show up, projects stall, small businesses suffer, and costs rise for everyone.
Immigration enforcement must be smart and humane. It should focus on serious criminals - not on workers trying to earn an honest living. I will continue to call for transparency, accountability, and real immigration reform that protects public safety without punishing families and workers who are essential to our communities and economy."
