NTEC to Feature in UW SER’s Distinguished Speaker Series as Part of Energy Day

The University of Wyoming's School of Energy Resources (SER) will host a special Distinguished Speaker Series presentation and ceremony Friday, Oct. 10, as part of Energy Day festivities to formally recognize a significant gift from the Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC).

The event will feature Matt Babcock, chief commercial officer at NTEC, who will discuss the company's innovations in the energy sector to support the Navajo Nation and Powder River Basin communities where NTEC operates. He also will highlight NTEC's partnership with SER and how the shared goals create opportunities for growth.

"The University of Wyoming and SER are at the forefront of energy innovation," Babcock says. "Their work is helping to propel the energy industry to meet the skyrocketing demand for clean power in this rapidly changing landscape. NTEC is excited to support SER with this gift to ensure that their valuable work continues for the future of energy in the Powder River Basin, Navajo Nation and United States."

The generous contribution from NTEC, announced at SER's Tribal Energy Summit last November, established the Navajo Transitional Energy Company School of Energy Resources Excellence Fund. This fund will significantly support SER's ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify Wyoming's energy industry. The state's matching program doubled the impact of the gift.

A formal gift presentation ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the Distinguished Speaker Series presentation to officially acknowledge and celebrate the pivotal contribution.

"We are thrilled to host this event, which serves as a featured event during our Energy Day celebrations and a significant milestone in our partnership with NTEC," says SER Executive Director Holly Krutka. "Our carbon engineering program's foundation is deeply rooted in coal resources from NTEC's Powder River Basin mines, demonstrating a long-standing and vital collaboration. This gift allows us to build upon that legacy and look forward to the exciting possibilities our continued partnership holds."

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to an open house showcasing a collaborative project between NTEC and UW's 3D Visualization Center. Guests will have the opportunity to view tangible examples of innovative coal-derived products developed within SER's Center for Carbon Capture and Conversion.
