Clarkson University to Host Annual OktoBAJAfest Exhibition Race in Colton

September 25, 2025

Clarkson University will host its annual OktoBAJAfest, a one-of-a-kind exhibition race featuring student-built all-terrain vehicles, Friday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 5, at Clarkson's Seven Springs property, 144 Crowley Rd. in Colton. The event is free and open to the public.

OktoBAJAfest brings together student Baja teams from across the United States and Canada to test their vehicles on the rugged trails and steep hills of Seven Springs, a scenic 65-acre property once used as a ski area. With a 250-foot vertical drop and miles of mountain bike and Baja trails, the site provides a challenging and exciting backdrop for both teams and spectators.

The festival will feature five competitive events, including a short track race, a suspension and maneuverability course, a hill climb, a technical inspection, and a final endurance race. Each competition highlights different aspects of vehicle design, from handling and safety to durability and overall performance.

Vehicles at OktoBAJAfest are designed and built by student engineering teams following Mini Baja standards. The process requires students to work as a team to design, engineer, build, test, and compete with a single-seat, all-terrain vehicle that could serve as a prototype for recreational use. For spectators, the event offers a unique chance to see innovation and problem-solving in action as vehicles tackle real-world terrain.

Unlike official Baja SAE competitions, OktoBAJAfest is independently organized by Clarkson Baja Alumni and hosted by Clarkson University. This year's competition will be limited to 15 teams and 30 cars, ensuring close action and an exciting viewing experience.

Whether you are a motorsports fan, an aspiring engineer, or simply looking for a unique fall activity, OktoBAJAfest provides an unforgettable weekend of innovation, endurance, and off-road racing.
