At 12:11 p.m. on February 5, 2026, Los Angeles Fire Department units responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a grocery store near South Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a silver sedan that had crashed through multiple front-facing windows into the bakery portion of the 99 Ranch Market, an area occupied by customers at the time of the collision. Approximately one block away from the bakery, a bicyclist was identified as having also been struck by the car prior to it crashing into the structure. Firefighters immediately moved the car to free several trapped victims, then initiated triage and treatment. Additional resources were requested to support patient care and transport.
A total of nine patients were ultimately identified at the scene. Three individuals were tragically determined to be beyond medical help and deceased. Four patients were transported to local hospitals: two 35-year-old males in critical condition and two males (a 38-year-old and a 37-year-old) in fair condition. Both the driver of the car and the bicyclist were evaluated on scene and declined treatment and hospital transport. All three fatalities -- a 55-year-old male, a 42-year-old female, and a 30-year-old male -- were confirmed to have been inside the bakery area at the time of the collision.
The Los Angeles Police Department has stated that the collision is not being investigated as an intentional act. The driver has been identified as an elderly female, and the incident remains under investigation by LAPD.
Due to damage sustained by the structure, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety conducted an assessment and yellow-tagged the building as a precautionary measure. No ongoing structural instability has been identified.
At its peak, this incident saw approximately 75 fire department personnel working on scene. LAFD worked closely with LAPD, LADBS, LADOT, the LA County Medical Examiner, and other partner agencies over the course of several hours to safely conclude scene management.
