On 12 March, during his working visit to Brazil, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Taurimas Valys welcomed the establishment of the Lithuania-Brazil Chamber of Commerce.
The Vice-Minister noted that the establishment of the Chamber is a significant step towards better exploiting the potential of economic relations between Lithuania and Brazil. According to him, the EU-Mercosur trade deal facilitates the strengthening of bilateral cooperation. Lithuania has a lot to offer to Mercosur countries, opening up new opportunities to expand trade, encourage investment, develop technological cooperation, and foster academic exchanges.
Carlos Levenstein, acting Honorary Consul of Lithuania, was the initiator and first President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Laércio Uliana was appointed Vice-President of the Chamber. The Board will be made up of prominent professionals and businessmen with Lithuanian roots, as well as representatives of the Brazilian business community, including former Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Celso Lafer.
As a follow-up to his visit to Brazil, the Vice-Minister also met with Samo Tosatti, Head of International Affairs for the São Paulo State Government, and Osmar Chohfi, Vice-President of the Foreign Trade Council of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP). During the meetings, it was agreed to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and promote the exchange of business delegations.
During the visit, Valys also met with the Brazilian Lithuanian community and members of LitPro (Lithuanian Professionals Latin America). The event presented business and investment opportunities in Lithuania and highlighted the importance of the Lithuanian diaspora in strengthening economic and cultural ties between Lithuania and Brazil.
