On 17 September, 99 Federal Darwish trainees attended their graduation ceremony, held at International Compound in Mogadishu, in the presence of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama and other high-level officials.
The three-month programme was implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Security, the Somali Police Force and Federal Darwish Headquarters, with EUCAP Somalia providing technical and operational support. This training was preceded by a successful pilot training of another 100 trainees, which took place earlier this year.
At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, the European Union, through EUCAP Somalia, developed and delivered this specialised training programme to prepare this second cohort of Federal Darwish trainees' deployment. These officers will be deployed to newly liberated areas, where they will act primarily as a stabilization force and carry out civil police tasks, including community-oriented policing, while upholding human rights standards and respect for gender related issues.
"We value our close cooperation with EUCAP Somalia. This graduation ceremony of Federal Darwish officers is an example of our common efforts toward a more secure and stable Somalia." (Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama)
"Following the success of our pilot training, this first full-fledged training programme demonstrates the steady progress of our partnership and the growing capacity of Somalia's security institutions." (Head of Mission Kęstutis Lančinskas, EUCAP Somalia)
To support the new Federal Darwish company's rapid deployment and operational readiness, in addition to training, EUCAP Somalia is regularly providing equipment such as vehicles and uniforms.
The event brought together representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia, led by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama with the presence of the Minister of Internal Security, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, and Commissioner of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Francesco Di Mauro, and other members of the international community, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening Somalia's wider security and governance priorities.
